The committee recommendations are forwarded to the Council for final action. The League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources so that they may influence policy decisions that affect cities. The Santee Chamber of Commerce seeks to encourage economic growth in a free enterprise environment and enhance the community's image through collaboration with various civic and governmental entities. San Diego Police Officers Association The San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) is the professional union of the more than 2,000 sworn officers of San Diego Police Department. Our motto, "Protecting those who protect and serve San Diego," reflects our mission of supporting San Diego police officers and their families. We also support the San Diego community through charitable giving and the promotion of programs that enhance public safety.
In 1997, a small group of active and retired San Diego Police Officers sat down to discuss the history of the San Diego Police Department and the lack of it's preservation. Our goal was to preserve the history and one day open a museum. In Fact, we thought the old police station located at 801 Market Street would be a great place to open the museum. Little did we know the Port of San Diego wanted to turn the entire location into a parking lot. Since all of had worked out to the old police station at one time, we made it a priority to place the site on the National List of Historical places. We accomplished the task but quickly learned that did not preserve the building from demolition. We sued the Port District and lost. We continued to fight with public support minimal resources. We engaged the assistance of interested elected officials and today the building is saved and we continuing to work on opening a museum. The San Diego Police Historical Association is now a 501(C)(3) Charity. Founded in 1915 in Detroit and with headquarters now in Indianapolis, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 96 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts, Kiwanis International truly is "Serving the Children of the World."
