Projects and Issues

During the campaign, I said:

  1. I wanted to insure a strong economy and provide public services without increasing taxes
  2. Maintain streets and sidewalks
  3. Manage growth with concern for current community members and with care to the environment.

Since taking office:

Committees:

  1. California League of Cities

  2. East County Economic Development Council

  3. Heartland Fire

  4.  Heartland CSA 69

Projects and Issues:

I was sworn in on December 3, 2002 and began working the next day.  I sat as a Commissioner for the Heartland Fire Communication Facility.  I participated in discussions regarding restructuring the communication software to comply with new federal legislation.  I left Santee for State Capitol immediately after the first council meeting in January to discuss the state budget with Senators and Assembly Members.

I have have attended several meeting in San Diego County with mayors and council members about the adverse affects the state budget will have on our basic cities services.  I moved to have a resolution sent from the Santee City Council to the governor and state legislators opposing the reduction or elimination of the vehicle license fee and redevelopment money from the proposed state budget.

I championed the cause of community member efforts to halt the conversion of high power wires from 69,000 volts to 138,000 volts.  I initiated a law suit and called for a hearing before the California Public Utilities Commission concerning the degradation of the environment by construction completed to upgrade the power lines. The concern here is the health issues related to "EMF's" (Electro Magnetic Fields).

Since attending the International Council of Shopping Centers convention in May 2003, I met with commercial developers regarding the continued redevelopment of blighted areas and new business within Santee Town Center.
